Bonding may be used for the following reasons:
-Repair of damage caused by decay or fractures
-Close gaps between teeth
-Change the appearance of a tooth’s alignment
Bonding involves application of composite resin (white) filling material matched to the color of the tooth. The tooth surface is roughened and an etching gel is applied. A bonding agent is then added to the surface to help the material adhere to the tooth and the composite resin material is placed on the tooth and hardened with a light. Finally, the composite resin material is shaped and polished to a lustrous, natural finish. Many cosmetic bonding procedures can be completed painlessly without use of local anesthetic.
